• With a tailpiece what counts is the afterlength, the distance between bridge and tailpiece.
• On the Multi System versions this afterlength can be adjusted by 5 mm on the fully assembled instrument without taking the strings off.

Sound and physics

The light alloy tailpiece also hangs on the tailgut, which passes the full string tension on to the end button. Its length determines how long the string section between bridge and tailpiece turns out.

The stainless steel tailgut is many times stiffer than a nylon tailgut and is regarded as more dimensionally stable (it keeps its length under tension). Nylon is today's standard for tailguts.
