Replacement Cork Pads for Chinrest Brackets, 5-Pack, ZK-505

ZK-505

Replacement cork pads for the chin rest clamps. The cork cushions the contact points on the rib and thins out over time; once it is worn through, the metal parts touch the instrument.

  • Die cut, not laser cut
  • Glued on with ordinary household adhesive
  • Also useful to lift the chin rest clear of the fine tuner

Material and use

At the contact points we use natural cork without coating, so that the chin rest sits without slipping and no metal touches the instrument. Pressed cork is unsuitable because it crumbles over time. Our cork is Portuguese natural cork, chemically untreated and without binder.

We work chin rest cork in 1.0 mm and 1.5 mm thickness; for the chin rest screws we die cut sheet cork of 1.5 mm. Freshly cut solid cork lasts longer than pressed cork. As a spare part we keep the 1.5 mm cork pads in a pack of 5 (ZK-505) and a pack of 10 (ZK-510).

Our experience

In our experience, the cork does not need changing when the chin rest is moved to another instrument.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to renew the cork when changing instruments?

No, as long as it is intact it can stay.

Why not pressed cork?

Because pressed cork crumbles over time; natural cork stays elastic for longer and keeps the chin rest from slipping.
