How it works
BAM supplies replacement locks as the Lock-B in black and the Lock-S in silver, in sizes of 22, 23 and 25 mm. As a rule the complete lock is replaced, and only the new BAM locks fit, because the drill holes of older versions differ. Newer locks sit on a metal plate, and in some cases only the upper part can be changed there, without rivets.
Combination locks are fixed inside with four screws, which makes them easy to change; the replacement lock comes with screws and felt pads. Riveted locks are drilled out and riveted afresh: release the inner padding, drill off the rivet heads from outside with a drill of around 5 mm, rivet the new lock with washers on the inside and refit the padding with hot glue. BAM supplies a set of two keys as SP0018. The code of a combination lock is changed with the case open: hold the lever pressed inwards and set the numbers.
Our experience
In our experience, stiff locks do well with an ordinary household lubricant such as WD-40, applied only once they actually become stiff.
