Pure Titan E-String Adjuster for Violin, ZF-6806

ZF-6806TF

Fine tuner for violin in the titanium version. It clips onto the tailpiece and adjusts more finely than the peg allows.

  • For fitting onto the tailpiece
  • Pure titanium is light, contains no nickel and resists corrosion without any coating.
  • When the screw reaches its end, reset the peg and bring the fine tuner back to the middle.

In practice

  • A fine tuner belongs on any string the peg cannot regulate finely enough. With steel strings that is the rule, with gut strings the exception.
  • The screw must never be wound down so far that it touches the top. When removing or fitting a fine tuner, a cloth under the tailpiece protects the varnish of the top.
  • When fitting, check that the string hook matches the string: ball ends and loop ends need different hooks.

Sound and physics

Our ZF-6806 is made entirely of pure titanium, including the pin to the lever; titanium is only just over half as dense as brass. The traditional ZF-6806TT weighs 1.9 grams, the facetted ZF-6806TF 1.7 grams; our black brass fine tuner ZF-6807G weighs 3 grams. The facetted version thus puts just over 40 per cent less mass on the tailpiece than the brass model of the same design.

Like every Götz fine tuner it keeps the E string on the tailpiece saddle, so that it has the same afterlength as G, D and A, our 55 millimetres on a 4/4 violin. The fine thread follows our Götz standard since 1965 and has been refined once more for titanium. The set contains two screws: one in pure titanium, which holds the tuning very firmly and runs slightly stiffer, and one in gilded brass with a particularly light action. From the factory the thread is lubricated with thickened linseed oil, which polymerises in the thread. The ZF-6806 is built for loop-end E strings on violins from 1/4 to 4/4.

Our experience

Our experience: players who retune often because their pegs do not hold perfectly tend to choose the brass screw, while those who want the tuning held as firmly as possible choose the titanium screw. We have brought titanium work, welding and bending, into our own house.

When another model suits you better

If you are looking for the classic brass fine tuner in black, gold or silver, you will find it in our ZF-6807, ZF-6807G, ZF-6811 and ZF-6810, built in the same Götz design.

Frequently asked questions

How heavy is the titanium fine tuner?

The facetted ZF-6806TF weighs 1.7 grams, the traditional ZF-6806TT 1.9 grams.

Why are two screws included?

The titanium screw holds the tuning firmly and runs slightly stiffer, the gilded brass screw runs particularly lightly.

Does the fine tuner need oiling?

Yes, keep the tuning screw oiled, ideally with thick linseed oil. Residue simply wipes off.
