Götz Endpin Rubber Tip for Cello Endpin, 3S-501
3S-501
Endpin rubber for the cello endpin from our own production. It protects the floor and the endpin tip and grips on most floors.
- Wearing part
- The endpin carries the instrument and passes vibration to the floor. Length and angle determine your playing posture and should be set properly once.
- Tighten the endpin screw only as far as it needs to hold. Overtightening widens the endpin socket.

Features
- For the cello endpin
In practice
- Two reasons for the rubber: in the case it protects the case bottom from the sharp tip, when playing it protects the floor. Many professional musicians leave it on the tip in the case
- An endpin rubber protects the floor and the tip; as a wearing part it is renewed once it becomes hard or cracked.
- On smooth floors an endpin rest with a socket or an anchor gives additional grip.
Material and mechanics
The Götz endpin rubber 3S-503 is made from a PAH-free blend of natural rubber and styrene-butadiene rubber (NR/SBR; PAH stands for polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons) with a hardness of 60 Shore A, plus or minus 5. It meets the Toy Safety Directive 2009/48/EC and the PAH limits of Regulation (EU) 1272/2013, and one piece weighs 3 grams.
The 4S-6146 screw is 12 millimetres long.
The endpin links the cello to the floor, and this path is part of the sound. Gorazd and Pochel (2023) measured the effect of the endpin material most clearly on the floor next to the endpin and at the microphone, and far less on the top between the f-holes. The material and geometry of the surface below, a stage riser for example, therefore also shape how the sound is transmitted.
Our experience
Our experience: the endpin rubber is needed for two reasons, in the case for the case floor and when playing for the floor itself, which is why many professionals leave it on the tip in the case. The steel tip is razor sharp, and no case withstands it in the long run without a rubber.
Our experience: the endpin tip is deliberately razor sharp, so that the cello stands on the floor with as little contact area as possible, around one millimetre.
When another model suits you better
If you want extra grip on a smooth floor, our ZP-2016 series endpin rests offer a centring magnet and a foam-rubber base.
Frequently asked questions
What is the Götz endpin rubber made of?
From a PAH-free NR/SBR rubber blend with a hardness of 60 Shore A, made in Germany.
Why should the rubber stay on the tip in the case?
Because otherwise the sharp steel tip damages the floor of the case.
Does the floor change the cello's sound?
The study by Gorazd and Pochel (2023) names the material and geometry of the floor as shaping how the sound is transmitted. The authors measured the clearest effect of the endpin material on the floor next to the endpin.
