Mechanics and fit

A closed chin rest fitting consists of two upper angles that screw into the chin rest wood, two barrels with an internal thread, and the bridge that rests against the back of the instrument. The barrel joins both threads; its length determines the span between chin rest and back that can be bridged.

The small, flat models such as the Slim Style and the Jacob need short 25 mm barrels. The height of the wooden chin rest itself stays fixed; it is adjusted through the length of the barrels.

For the same design, a fitting in steel or brass weighs 1.7 to 1.9 times as much as one in titanium.

Our experience

Our way of fitting: turn the small screws only part of the way into the chin rest, then slowly set the large screw over them and adjust the small ones until the large one forms a straight line on both sides. If the instrument sits about 2 mm above the usual height, we simply use the next longer barrel.

When another model suits you better

Anyone who would like a fitting in pure titanium will find it in the Götz Pure Titan Fitting.
