In practice
- In the CelloGard a cello laid down stays safe even when someone knocks it: the instrument lies in it on its side and stays where it is.
- Typical situations are rehearsal breaks, the orchestra pit, the teaching room and a household with children or pets.
- Neoprene sleeves are included; they go between instrument and plastic.
- It was developed by the cellist Bob Ng over more than a hundred prototypes, US patent 10,347,225.
- The foldable version is the choice for players who travel to rehearsals and performances.
Protection and stability
The CelloGard takes the resting cello by its upper rib and secures it in a lying position. Its base deliberately has no rubber feet: when knocked, the unit slides sideways across the floor and dissipates the force, whereas rubber feet would create more friction and raise the risk of tipping.
Unfolded, the foldable version measures 25 × 10 × 15 cm, weighs 250 g and can be carried folded in the cello case. The sleeves at the contact points sit between rib and holder.
Our experience
We recommend the CelloGard for the orchestra pit, the music school and the music room, wherever a cello needs to lie safely during a break.
